Barcola to Liverpool: Premier League 2026-27 Odds Impact

Liverpool have made Bradley Barcola their priority signing of the summer, and the distance between what they will pay and what Paris Saint-Germain want has kept the deal open for weeks. Sky Sports reported PSG valuing the France winger at £145m and described their stance as making the transfer difficult to complete. Fabrizio Romano’s position this month was that nothing had been agreed and talks had produced no breakthrough. Liverpool are 6.44 to win the Premier League on Cloudbet’s 2026-27 outright winner board and open the season at Newcastle on August 23.

The Valuation Gap Between Liverpool and PSG

Barcola has two years left on his PSG contract, which expires on 30 June 2028, and has indicated he will not sign an extension. That is the leverage Liverpool have been working with, and so far it has not closed the distance on price.

L’Équipe reported an initial verbal offer of around €100m (£85.8m) being dismissed, followed by Liverpool preparing a concrete bid of €115m (£98.5m). The same reporting had Liverpool willing to go to €120m (£102.9m) against a PSG position closer to €150m (£128.6m), leaving a gap of roughly £26m between the two valuations.

A Liverpool-focused outlet reported an agreement in principle at around €128m (£109.7m), with add-ons structured more favourably than in earlier proposals. Romano contradicted that directly, stating that negotiations were continuing but nothing had been agreed or reached final stages. Reporting in the days since has had PSG holding at £145m.

Personal terms appear to be the settled part. Barcola has been reported as having agreed a contract at Anfield, and his preference for the move has been consistent since May. His agent, Moussa Sissoko, has been described as effective at bridging positions that look irreconcilable, which is one reason the deal has stayed alive rather than collapsing.

For scale, PSG bought Barcola from Lyon in 2023 for around £40m. Any figure in the range currently under discussion represents a substantial return on that, and at the upper end it would make him one of the most expensive signings in Liverpool’s history.

Why Iraola Wants Barcola

Andoni Iraola took over at Liverpool in the summer of 2026 after three seasons at Bournemouth, succeeding Arne Slot. His teams at Bournemouth and Rayo Vallecano were built around pace, energy and work rate from wide areas, which is the specific reason Barcola sits at the top of the list rather than a more conventional creator.

The vacancy is real. Mohamed Salah has left, and Barcola has been reported as his intended replacement, with sporting director Richard Hughes and Iraola identifying the 23-year-old as the priority target following that departure. Replacing a player who carried close to a decade of Liverpool’s right-sided output is not a like-for-like exercise, and Iraola appears to be changing the profile rather than matching it.

Liverpool’s main alternative has already gone elsewhere. They bid around €100m for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande earlier in the window. Leipzig rejected it and the 19-year-old joined Real Madrid for a club-record fee, which leaves Barcola as the target Liverpool have committed to with limited fallback.

Pre-season has given Iraola reasons to want the addition. Liverpool led Monaco 2-0 at Anfield on August 9 through Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz before losing 3-2, having also led Leeds 2-0 in Chicago the week before and lost 4-2. A forward signing would not address the defensive lapses behind those results, though a squad struggling to close matches out has an obvious use for another attacker who threatens goal directly.

What PSG Do If He Leaves

PSG have not been idle. They completed the signing of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco for €50m (£42.8m) and have been linked with a bid for Ajax winger Mika Godts, which reads as a club preparing for Barcola’s exit rather than resisting it outright.

Their calendar is tight as well. PSG met Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12 and Lens in the Trophée des Champions on August 16, and they are confirmed for the Champions League league phase beginning September 8 as holders. Selling a wide forward in the closing weeks of a window means replacing him without a pre-season inside the squad, and that cost is part of what gets built into a fee.

Barcola’s own condition is a factor. Current records list him carrying an ankle injury, and he reported back late for pre-season after being part of the France squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals.

How the Premier League Title Market Prices Liverpool

Liverpool are 6.44 to win the 2026-27 Premier League on Cloudbet’s outright winner board. Arsenal are favourites at 2.41 as defending champions, Manchester City are 3.96 in their first season under Enzo Maresca, and Chelsea at 8.42 and Manchester United at 8.92 sit just behind Liverpool. Tottenham head the next group at 25.7. Prices are correct at the time of writing and subject to movement.

A price of 6.44 implies roughly 15.5 percent before accounting for the margin built into every selection. That places Liverpool as a credible contender rather than a favourite, which is consistent with a fifth-place finish last season and a new manager installing a different system.

An outright winner market resolves once, on the final table after 38 matches, so it absorbs squad information in increments rather than reacting to individual reports. A completed signing changes the assumed floor of a squad across a whole season. Reported talks do not, which is why registrations and announcements move a price where headlines generally do not. The Barcola situation has produced several rounds of conflicting figures without a confirmed fee, and a season-long market has no way to price a number that has not settled.

Iraola’s first competitive selection, at St James’ Park, will indicate how he intends to set up the attack with or without Barcola. The fee is still unagreed, PSG have not moved off their valuation, and little more than a fortnight of the window remains.
