Worlds 2026 Betting Guide: LoL World Championship Format, Odds and Favorites

The 2026 League of Legends World Championship heads to the United States from October 15 to November 14, with 19 teams competing across Los Angeles, Allen, Texas, and Brooklyn, New York.

Worlds 2026 begins with a four-team Play-In before 16 teams enter the Swiss Stage. Eight survive to the Knockout Stage, where best-of-five series decide who reaches the November 14 Grand Final at Barclays Center.

For bettors, the tournament format is important. Regional seeding can influence the difficulty of a team’s route through Swiss, while short best-of-one matches create more upset potential than the longer series later in the tournament.

When and where is Worlds 2026?

Stage Dates Location
Play-In October 15–18 Riot Games Arena, Los Angeles
Swiss Stage October 23–26 and 28–31 Credit Union of Texas Event Center, Allen
Quarterfinals November 3–6 Allen, Texas
Semifinals November 7–8 Allen, Texas
Grand Final November 14 Barclays Center, Brooklyn

Riot originally announced the Texas and New York stages before later confirming that Play-In would take place in Los Angeles. Worlds therefore moves from the West Coast to Texas before finishing in New York.

How does the Worlds 2026 format work?

Nineteen teams qualify for Worlds 2026.

The LCK and LPL each receive four places after Hanwha Life Esports beat Bilibili Gaming 3-2 in the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational final. The LEC, LCS, and LCP receive three teams each, while CBLOL has two.

The tournament then has three main stages.

1. Play-In Stage

Four of the lowest-seeded teams from eligible multi-team regions enter a double-elimination bracket in Los Angeles.

Every matchup is a best-of-five, but only one of the four teams advances to Swiss.

That makes Play-In considerably more demanding than a simple one-series qualifier. Teams have more opportunity to recover from one defeat because of double elimination, but three of the four entrants will still be out before the main Swiss Stage begins.

2. Swiss Stage

Sixteen teams compete in five rounds.

A team advances to the Knockout Stage when it reaches three wins. A team is eliminated when it reaches three losses.

Teams are matched against opponents with the same or similar record as the stage develops. Games that decide qualification or elimination are played as best-of-three series, while other Swiss matches are best-of-one.

That difference is important for betting. A strong favorite has less room to recover from one bad draft or execution mistake in a best-of-one than it does across a best-of-three.

3. Knockout Stage

The eight Swiss qualifiers enter a single-elimination bracket.

Quarterfinals, semifinals, and the Grand Final are all best-of-five. Lose one series and the tournament is over.

Why does Swiss seeding matter for Worlds outright betting?

Two teams can have similar championship chances on paper but very different routes through Swiss.

Riot has confirmed that Worlds seeding will reflect regional performance, including results from MSI. The final seeding structure will be announced once qualification is complete.

Higher regional seeds generally benefit from stronger initial positioning, while lower seeds are more likely to face difficult opposition earlier.

That can affect outright value.

Suppose two teams are close in ability but one enters as its region’s No. 1 seed and the other as a lower seed. If the higher seed has a better chance of avoiding another elite contender in the opening round, its path to three Swiss wins may be easier.

Starting 1-0 rather than 0-1 matters because future opponents are influenced by record. A favorite that suffers an early upset can quickly find itself playing another strong team that has also started badly.

Bettors should therefore reassess Worlds outrights once the final seeds and opening Swiss draw are known rather than treating pre-draw prices as fixed.

Who are the favorites to win Worlds 2026?

Gen.G

Gen.G strengthened its case immediately before Worlds by beating Hanwha Life Esports 3-1 in the LCK Grand Final on September 13.

Riot’s Global Power Rankings had Gen.G at No. 2 worldwide immediately afterward, behind only HLE. That combination of domestic form and an established international roster makes Gen.G one of the clearest outright contenders.

Hanwha Life Esports

HLE may have lost the LCK final, but its international résumé is difficult to ignore.

Hanwha won MSI in July, beating Bilibili Gaming 3-2 in the final after also eliminating LYON. That victory guaranteed HLE a place at Worlds and helped the LCK earn its fourth slot.

As of mid-September, Riot still ranked HLE as the strongest team in its Global Power Rankings.

For outright bettors, the question is whether the LCK final defeat creates a slightly better price on a team that has already won an international best-of-five tournament this year.

Bilibili Gaming

Bilibili Gaming remains one of China’s strongest title candidates despite losing the MSI final to HLE and the recent LPL final to Anyone’s Legend.

BLG reached the MSI final and has spent much of 2026 close to the top of Riot’s global rankings. Its ceiling against elite Korean opposition keeps it firmly in the Worlds conversation.

The final LPL seeding will matter, though. A better Swiss position could make BLG more attractive at a similar outright price.

T1

T1 can rarely be ignored at Worlds.

They are the defending world champions after winning Worlds 2025 and already have another Worlds place secured for 2026. Their domestic season has been less dominant than Gen.G or HLE, including a 3-1 playoff defeat to Hanwha, but T1’s experience in long international series remains a major positive once the tournament reaches best-of-five play.

If the outright market heavily favors Gen.G and HLE, T1 may become more interesting at a longer price.

Which regions are strongest at Worlds 2026?

LCK: Korea

The LCK enters as the strongest region on current evidence.

HLE won MSI, Gen.G won the LCK championship, and Riot’s latest rankings place HLE and Gen.G first and second globally, with T1 and Dplus KIA also inside the top group of contenders.

That depth means the LCK can offer several legitimate outright options rather than relying on one favorite.

LPL: China

China’s main challengers include Bilibili Gaming and new LPL champion Anyone’s Legend.

AL beat BLG 3-1 in the September 13 final, adding another serious contender to an LPL field that receives four Worlds slots because of BLG’s runner-up finish at MSI.

The remaining Chinese qualification places will further shape the region’s overall strength.

LEC: Europe

G2 Esports and Karmine Corp have already secured Worlds places, with the final LEC slot still to be decided.

G2 is the obvious European team to monitor after finishing fourth at MSI and sitting fifth in Riot’s mid-September Global Power Rankings.

The gap to the leading LCK and LPL sides remains reflected in the overall hierarchy, but Swiss best-of-ones give strong Western teams opportunities to produce early upsets.

LCS, LCP, and CBLOL

The LCS field is still being decided, while Team Secret Whales, CTBC Flying Oyster, and MVK Esports have qualified from the LCP.

These regions are likely to carry longer outright prices, which means bettors should be particularly careful about confusing a large payout with genuine value.

Match markets may offer more targeted opportunities than backing an outsider to win the entire tournament.

What should you check before betting on Worlds 2026?

The final team list is only the beginning.

Check regional seeding, the Swiss draw, and the Worlds patch before committing to an outright. Champion changes can favor particular playstyles, while one difficult opening matchup can change a team’s route through Swiss.

During the tournament, remember the format. Best-of-one matches carry more upset risk, while best-of-three qualification games and best-of-five knockout series give stronger teams more time to adapt.
