Introduction: Why TI 2026 changes the betting picture

TI compresses an entire season’s worth of expectations into a short tournament where the opponent pool changes after every Swiss round.

That is particularly important in 2026 because Patch 7.41e was released on July 30, exactly two weeks before the tournament began. Teams had limited high-level competitive data on the final TI patch before arriving in Shanghai, increasing the importance of early drafts, hero priorities, and how quickly teams identify what works.

The field also arrived with conflicting recent form. TEAM VISION won the Dota 2 Esports World Cup in July, beating BoomBoys 3–1 in the final. Team Yandex finished third, and qualifier Vici Gaming took fourth. Then, in the final major warm-up before TI, Team Liquid swept defending TI champions Team Falcons 3–0 in the 1win Essence II Grand Final on August 5.

That makes recent performance useful, but no single tournament provides a complete TI prediction.

TI 2026 at a glance

Valve contributed the $1.6 million base prize pool, with 30% of supporter bundle sales added to the tournament prize pool. Because that contribution continues, the total is dynamic; the approximately $2.94 million figure should be date-stamped if used after August 13.

Who qualified for TI 2026?

Seven places came through direct invitations and nine through regional qualifiers. The final official participant list uses some different team names from Valve’s original invite announcement, so the names below reflect the teams competing in Shanghai.

The regional qualifier field is important when assessing futures. TEAM VISION qualified rather than receiving a direct invitation and then won the Esports World Cup, while Vici qualified through China before finishing fourth at that same event. A qualifier label therefore tells you how a team reached TI, not how strong it is once the tournament starts.

Betting the Swiss stage

TI15 does not use fixed groups. Teams are paired according to their evolving Swiss records, so a team’s next opponent depends partly on what has already happened.

That changes the value of a result. An early win affects both the standings and the level of opposition a team is likely to face next.

The 3–2 versus 2–3 distinction is particularly important. Valve’s rules state that the highest-ranked 3–2 team chooses its opponent from the five 2–3 teams, followed by the next-highest 3–2 team until all five matchups are set.

Ranking among teams with the same match record therefore has real value. Official tiebreak criteria begin with match wins and losses, then consider the combined match wins of previous opponents, game-win percentage, opponent game-win percentage, and additional criteria if required.

For outright bettors, this means two teams both sitting at 3–2 can leave the Swiss stage with very different elimination-round paths.

Betting the TI playoffs

Eight teams reach the Oriental Sports Center for the double-elimination Main Event. A first defeat in the upper bracket sends a team into the lower bracket; a defeat in the lower bracket ends its tournament.

That creates several useful distinctions:

The Grand Final distinction is especially important. A Bo3 can end 2–0 after two drafts; the championship requires three map wins. That changes total-map, series-handicap, and correct-score markets when they are available.

Outright and futures markets

TI’s tournament-wide markets are where the format becomes particularly useful.

Common TI futures can include:

• Tournament winner
• Top-four or finishing-position markets
• To reach the Main Event
• Swiss/group-stage placement markets
• Regional or team-performance props

Availability varies, but Cloudbet currently lists an outright winner market alongside TI match winner, first blood, total kills, and live in-play betting.

Futures prices can move quickly during Swiss play. A strong 2–0 start improves a team’s route through the tournament, while an 0–2 start increases the chance that it reaches Sunday’s elimination round or misses the Main Event completely.

Don’t interpret that movement without looking at who the team faced and how it won or lost. A 2–0 record built through convincing drafts against strong opponents tells you more than the record alone.

What to track during TI 2026

Three areas deserve particular attention as the tournament develops.

Patch 7.41e

TI started only two weeks after the July 30 update. Track which heroes become first-phase priorities, which previous meta picks disappear, and whether certain teams consistently gain draft advantages.

Recent form versus TI form

TEAM VISION arrived as EWC champions, BoomBoys as runners-up, and Team Liquid came in after sweeping Falcons immediately before TI. Those results give you a starting point, but Swiss opponents and TI15 drafts provide fresher evidence once play begins.

Qualification route and roster continuity

Nine teams had to qualify regionally, while the direct-invite field also experienced organizational changes between the invitations and Shanghai. Use the final official roster and current results rather than relying on the team name or ranking that earned the original invitation.

Myth: A 2–0 Swiss start means a team is basically through

A 2–0 start puts a team in a strong position, but it does not guarantee a place in the Main Event.

Only the top three teams after the five Swiss rounds advance directly. A team that eventually finishes 3–2 still has to play a best-of-three elimination series on August 16, with its TI run ending if it loses.

That makes early Swiss records useful for updating an outright bet, but qualification should not be treated as secured until the format says it is.
