Here's our view on a few matches that don't involve the big boys of Spanish soccer, but does include the Valencian Derby del Turia... and we all know there's nothing quite like a local derby to get the blood pumping for the start of a new season.

Granada v Athletic Bilbao

Season opener for both teams and the first game since July when last season finished with this same fixture - when Granada ran out 4-0 winners. The odds of Granada scoring four goals again is an attractive 40.0.

Granada have struggled in the curtailed pre-season and may be distracted by their return to European competition with a qualifier after this game. With no significant transfer business by either team, it’s much the same starting teams as last season.

Zero Margin: Granada 2.91 Draw 3.20 Athletic Bilbao 2.89

Eibar v Celta Vigo

Typical pre-season for Eibar who lost several key players to rival teams and are missing their best player in left back Jose Angel following an ACL injury at the end of last season.

Having narrowly avoided relegation last season, Celta are not without their own problems, notably between the sticks as both first choice goalkeepers are injured - so untested Ivan Villar is promoted from the B-team.

Eibar 2.51 Draw 3.17 Celta Vigo 3.02

Cadiz v Osasuna

Cadiz earned promotion as runners-up in La Segunda and kept the key elements of their squad intact over the shortened summer break. However, they will be without important midfielder Alberto Perea, who is suspended here.

Osasuna haven’t replaced full back Estupinan - who left for Watford - and have injury doubts over both forwards Avila and Gallego.

Cadiz 2.85 Draw 2.98 Osasuna 2.80

Valladolid v Sociedad

Off the back of a solid mid-table finish, Valladolid have been proactive in the transfer market with upgrades through the spine of the team - particularly in Schon Weissman, who should be a major upgrade in attack.

Sociedad swapped Odegaard for David Silva in midfield but suffered a coronavirus outbreak resulting in both creative midfielders Silva and Oyarzabal sitting this game out.

Valladolid 2.95 Draw 3.16 Sociedad 2.56

Villarreal v Recreativo Huesca

Villa welcome new coach Unai Emery who has been well supported in the transfer market - Coquelin, Kubo and Parejo are all expected to make their debuts.

Recreativo are promoted as champions and while there’s been plenty of squad turnover, the key, important players have remained at the club.

Villarreal 1.56 Draw 4.09 Huesca 6.17

Valencia v Levante

The 35th “Derby del Turia” as Levante attempt to win at the Mestalla for the first time since 1937.

It has been a tumultuous off-season for Valencia as new coach Javi Gracia attempts to rebuild a squad under severe financial restraints. With a fan demonstration expected and injuries to both full backs, as well as striker Kevin Gameiro, a carbon-copy of a recent 0-0 friendly wouldn’t be a surprise.

In contrast, Levante have enjoyed a quiet off-season with encouraging results in the friendlies and suffering no important personnel losses - but must cope without influential starters Roger and Rochina for the Valencian derby.

Valencia 2.07 Draw 3.43 Levante 3.68

Alaves v Betis

The first competitive match for new Alaves coach Pablo Machin, who appears to be struggling to successfully adopt his favoured 3-5-2 tactics in some morale-sapping friendlies.

The vastly experienced Manuel Pellegrini takes over at Betis who boast a 100% win record in their three pre-season runouts.

No significant injuries for either team.

Alaves 2.88 Draw 3.24 Betis 2.57
